WRITING PROJECTS

Project | 01
Project 01 | "The Grand Bargain (Part 2)"

In my International Political Economy course, Professor Cohen instructed us to pick an unsolved issue in the world that contained political and economic elements. The prompt was complex, asking us to describe the significance of our desired issue, analyze any attempted solutions to the issue and discuss why they failed, develop our own solution(s) to the issue, compare and contrast our solutions, and, if able to, select the most realistic and applicable solution that can resolve the issue. I focused on the dispute over the South China Sea. My ability to relay my arguments and justify why I felt my way was the best while remaining organized and persuasive throughout the entire essay was a true testament to the detail and time I put into my writing. After receiving my grade and feedback from my TA on this assignment, I knew there was no prompt “too complex” for me to tackle. I gained confidence in my ability to effectively convey my argument(s) in a persuasive way to an audience.

Project 02 | "How to Keep Saddam Hussein Alive?"

This was an assignment in my International Security course that challenged me to think outside of the box. I was instructed to backtrack in history, put myself into the shoes of Saddam Hussein's National Security Advisor, and describe a strategy (or advice) that I would have told Saddam Hussein to keep him alive. Despite the very low word-limit, I was able to cultivate multiple ideas in a persuasive and concise way to convince my instructor that my way would have been the most effective Saddam Hussein alive in order to hold his nation intact. My instructor was most impressed with my ability to squeeze so many influential arguments into such a short piece. This skill allowed me to receive the highest grade on the assignment and proved that I have the ability to write creatively and efficiently.

Project | "Memorandum to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce"

This is one of the assignments throughout my college career that required me to be extra creative when writing. I took the role of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and was instructed to convince the Board of Directors on a strategic plan to garner support from Americans towards a proposed tax reformation plan. This Memorandum accurately portrays the creativity and uniqueness I bring to writing in order to solve complex and nuanced topics. This piece also exemplifies my organized writing and my ability to convey my thoughts in a persuasive and concise way. This unconventional assignment allowed me to think outside of the box while upholding strong and effective writing techniques.
